Nov. 12, 2012
EAST LANSING, Mich. -- - Michigan State sophomore forward Matt Berry (Canton, Mich.) has been named the CCHA Offensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday, Nov. 12.
Berry had a hat trick and an assist in a 7-2 victory over Michigan on Saturday at Munn Ice Arena. He scored just 34 seconds into the game, and added a power-play tally at 10:42 of the first period to cap a four-goal first period for the Spartans. He completed his hat trick in the second period at 15:08, then had an assist on a Matt DeBlouw marker in the third period.
Berry has a pair of four-goal games over the last two Saturdays, and MSU's leading scorer ranks fifth in the CCHA in points (11) and is tied for second in goals (6). His hat trick was the first for MSU since Lee Reimer had one against Robert Morris last October.
The Spartans are back on the road this weekend, traveling to Oxford, Ohio to take on No. 4 Miami on Friday and Saturday at Steve Cady Arena.
