East Lansing, Mich. - Sophomore netminder Jeff Lerg has been named the CCHA Goaltender of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday, November 13.
Lerg stopped 64 of 66 shots in a three-point week for the Spartans. The sophomore had 29 saves against Ferris State at home in a 2-2 midweek tie, then came back with a season-best 35 stops in a 6-0 victory on the road in Big Rapids Friday night, his (and the team's) first shutout of the season.
On the year, Lerg owns a 3.10 GAA and .872 save percentage.
Michigan State, a consensus No. 4 in both national hockey polls this week, prepares for a home-and-home series with No. 5/6 Notre Dame this weekend. The teams face off on Friday in South Bend (8 p.m., CSTV) and on Saturday in East Lansing (7 p.m.) in a game which will be carried by Comcast Local.
