EAST LANSING - Michigan State sophomore goaltender Jake Hildebrand has been named one of the Big Ten's Three Stars of the Week, it was announced today by the conference office. Hildebrand was named the second star after leading all Big Ten goalies with 79 saves last weekend.
In two starts last weekend against top-ranked Minnesota, Hildebrand made a total of 79 saves, posting a 2.42 GAA and a .940 save percentage. The Butler, Pa., native made a season-high 44 saves in the Spartans' 2-2 tie with Minnesota, and then stopped all three Gopher attempts in the shootout, giving the Spartans a shootout victory.
In Saturday's 3-2 loss, Hildebrand had 35 saves.
Hildebrand has a 2.54 GAA and .916 save percentage on the season. His 305 saves are second most among goaltenders in the conference this season.
Hildebrand is the first Spartan to earn a Big Ten weekly award.
