Assistant coach John McElroy is in his 10th season with the MSU men's soccer staff. His primary responsibility is coaching the Spartan goalkeepers. McElroy played a large part in the success of 2007 netminder Chris Austin, who ranked among the nation's statistical leaders for much of the season.

McElroy is also in the third year of working with the goalkeepers on the Michigan Olympic Development Program staff. He received a USSF B License in 2000 and holds a National Advanced Diploma and a National Diploma from the NSCAA. In 2007, McElroy received the USSF National Goalkeeping License.

Originally from Evansville, Ind., McElroy earned his bachelor's degree from Indiana University in 1996. McElroy has master's degrees in Kinesiology (2000) and Marriage & Family Therapy (2006) from Michigan State.

His family includes his wife, Tazim, and two dogs, Grover and Astro.
