Men's Soccer Ties Kentucky In Exhibition Contest

FT. WAYNE, Ind. - Michigan State men's soccer freshman forward Louis Stephens III (Saginaw, Mich.) scored a goal in the 87th minute to tie an exhibition contest with Kentucky, 1-1, at the 2005 Soccer Showcase hosted by IPFW in Ft. Wayne, Ind. The Spartans were the more aggressive team, out-shooting the Wildcats, 17-4, including a 12-3 advantage in shots on goal. Twenty-one different players saw action for the Spartans.
Kentucky scored first when Thomas Senecal headed a ball past Spartan goalkeeper Jason Tillman (Jr., Brighton, Mich.) at the 18:21 mark of the first half. The one-goal lead held up until the 87th minute when Stephens took a pass from John Pizanis (So., East Lansing, Mich.) and found the back of the net.
Three different Spartans saw action in the MSU goal. Tillman played the entire first half, allowing one goal and recording one save. Freshman Todd Henderson (Pendleton, Ind.) made one save in 22:53. Sophomore Chris Austin (Livonia, Mich.) played the final 22:07 of the contest.
The Spartans will play one more exhibition game before opening the regular season. Michigan State will play Loyola on Aug. 28 in Ft. Wayne, Ind. in the final tune-up.
