FT. WAYNE, Ind. - IUPUI scored the game-winning goal at 82:03 to defeat the Michigan State men's soccer team, 2-1, on Sunday afternoon at the IPFW Soccer Showcase in Ft. Wayne, Ind. The contest marks the final tune-up for the Spartans before they open the regular season on Sept. 1 at Bowling Green. The first half featured several shots, but no scoring. Michigan State recorded seven shots, one fewer than IUPUI. Just three shots, however, were on goal. In the second half, the Jaguars scored first on an unassisted goal by Adrian Conrad at 59:25. The Spartans scored the equalizer at 80:06 when junior Steve Doster (Frankfort, Ill.) found the back of the net on assists from senior Udo Seidel (Prospect Heights, Ill.) and freshman Kenzo Webster (Monroe). Less than two minutes later, IUPUI's Michael Bowditch scored the game-winner. Michigan State split time between three goalkeepers. Freshman Jason Tillman (Brighton) started his second straight exhibtion game. In 35:04, he was not required to make a save. Sophomore Chris Austin (Livonia) made two saves in 43:54, but did allow one goal. Junior Mike Kotick (La Canada, Calif.) played the final 11:02, allowing the game-winning goal.
