Fort Wayne, Ind. - The men's soccer team wrapped up its exhibition schedule on Sunday with a 1-0 victory over 11th-ranked Duke at the Soccerpalooza National Soccer Festival in Fort Wayne, Ind. In the team's final warmup for the 2010 season, the Spartans got a second-half tally and a strong team defensive effort to pick up the win over the Blue Devils, a top-15 preseason team.

"I'm really very pleased with what we got from the team today - it was a good team effort," noted head coach Damon Rensing, who is opening his second season as the head coach of the Spartans. "We were organized defensively, and we saw good things both out of our starters and our reserves. "

Freshman Tim Kreutz netted the game's only tally, converting a feed from junior transfer Brent Rosendall in the 55th minute.

Senior starter Avery Steinlage didn't allow a goal in his 55 minutes of work, and backup Jeremy Clark went the balance of the game without allowing the Blue Devils on the board to earned a shared shutout for the goalkeeping pair.

MSU will have an off-day on Monday, then begin preparations for a challenging opening weekend in the Nation's capital. The Spartans will play at No. 3 Maryland on Friday at 7:30 p.m., then will complete the trip on Sunday at Georgetown in a 1 p.m. tilt.

"Maryland will be one of the best atmospheres we play in this season, and it's a great challenge for us early - we will have to deal with the talent level on the field, and also with a great home-field environment for the Terps. Its an exciting challenge for us, and I know that our team will be ready."
