ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The Michigan State men's soccer team scored two goals in the first 12 minutes of the game and held on in the final minutes for a 2-1 victory over Long Island at the Michigan Invitational in Ann Arbor. MSU improves to 2-0-1 on the season, while LIU falls to 1-2.

The Spartans scored early, striking at 5:45 when sophomore forward Kenzo Webster (Monroe, Mich.) took a pass from senior midfielder John Kaczmarek (Plymouth, Mich.) and found the back of the net. Less than six minutes later, senior midfielder Ryan McMahen (Munster, Ind.) placed a perfect corner kick at the feet of freshman forward Doug DeMartin (Mason, Mich.), who easily scored, giving MSU an early 2-0 lead. The score did not change until LIU's Michael Gagliano scored in the 86th minute, but the Blackbirds were not able to score the tying goal in the final minutes.

Michigan State returns to action on Sunday, Sept. 11 against Louisville at 11:30 a.m. at the Michigan Invitational.
