Thompson had both goals in the first half for MSU, netting the first in the 14th minute off a pass from Cyrus Saydee and the second on a corner kick moments after the Spartans had a Brent Rosendall score called back.

In the 55th minute, Thompson took a loose ball and streaked through the middle third, laying the ball off to the right side for classmate Jeff Ricondo. Ricondo took a touch and beat the keeper into the left side.

Rubin Bega got his third tally of the year in the 68th minute to extend MSU's lead to 4-0. Bega had a shot deep in the box , and it fell ahead of the goal line; the defender's attempt to clear volleyed off the post and into the back of the net.

Avery Steinlage made five saves before making way for backup Jeremy Clark. Clark made two big saves to start his stint, but in the 85th minute, the Purple Eagles broke up the Spartan shutout as Rene DeZorzi converted the corner kick from Brandon Wellington for Niagara's only marker of the day.
