Robinson Makes 13 Saves As Men's Soccer Blanks Hartford
Sept. 13, 2002 AMHERST, Mass. - Senior goalkeeper Tyler Robinson (Lansing) made 13 saves as the Michigan State men's soccer team defeated Hartford, 3-0, on Friday afternoon at the UMass Soccer Classic in Amherst, Mass. With the win, State improves to 3-1 on the season, while Hartford falls to 1-3. Michigan State opened the scoring in the 21st minute when Nick Binder (Jr., Mason) directed a header into the low left corner of the net. The goal was the first of Binder's career at MSU and came off a corner kick from Brett Konley (Sr., Plymouth). The Spartans held a 1-0 lead until the 63rd minute when Jeffrey Krass (Jr., Brighton) headed Craig Hearn's (Jr., Farmington Hills) pass into the top of the net. Michigan State added a third goal at 78:03 on a goal by Colin Hamilton (Sr., Ada). Konley recorded the assist as he got the Hartford goalie to commit, before dropping the ball off to Hamilton who had a wide-open net. Nick DeGraw (Jr., Clinton Township) also tallied an assist on the play as Hamilton recorded his first goal since the 1999 season. Robinson continues to have a great year for the Spartans. In three starts, he has recorded two shutouts and the only goal scored against him was an own goal. Michigan State returns to action on Sunday as it battles Massachusetts at 1 p.m. Although the UMass Soccer Classic is not a tournament, the winner of the MSU-UMass game could claim a title as the Minutemen defeated Iona, 4-3, on Friday afternoon.
