Men's Soccer Powers Past Western Michigan, 4-0
Oct. 25, 2006
KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Led by senior Matt Kreikemeier's two-goal performance and a score and an assist by sophomore Doug DeMartin, the Michigan State men's soccer team powered past Western Michigan, 4-0, on Oct. 25. Also chipping in a goal was sophomore Zac Scaffidi. MSU improves to 10-5-2 on the year, while WMU falls to 6-10-1.
Scaffidi got the offensive outburst started in the 21st minute. Connecting on a cross from DeMartin, Scaffidi sent his second strike of the season into the upper right corner of the net. The Spartans took a 1-0 advantage into halftime.
DeMartin doubled the Green and White lead eight minutes into the second half. With Kevin Reiman serving the corner kick, DeMartin flicked a header past WMU goalie Casey Aubil for his second goal of the season.
Kreikemeier would net the next two Spartan scores, the first of the two off a penalty kick. Scoring six goals this season, four of Kreikemeier's goals have been generated from penalty kicks.
Michigan State will play its last game of the regular season on Sunday, Oct. 29, traveling to Columbus to face Ohio State. The Buckeyes are also hosts of this year's conference tournament, Nov. 2-5.
