Spartans Close Out Regular Season With A Road Victory
MSU nets one goal early and one goal late to defeat Valparaiso, 2-0.

VALPARAISO, Ind. - The Michigan State men's soccer team downed the Valparaiso Crusaders Sunday afternoon, 2-0, at Valparaiso. With the victory, the Spartans improve to 7-5-5 overall. The Crusaders fall to 6-9-2.
Just over 14 minutes into the contest, Michigan State senior co-captain and sweeper Steve Doster (Frankfort, Ill.) was awarded a penalty kick and netted his second penalty kick, and third overall goal of the season, to put the Spartans up, 1-0.
With less than two minutes remaining in the match, Ryan Dick (So., Rochester Hills) crossed the ball and Doug DeMartin (Fr., Mason) was on the receiving end in the box, chipping the ball behind the Valpo goaltender, to propel State to its 2-0 advantage. The goal was DeMartin's sixth tally this season.
MSU goalkeeper Jason Tillman (Brighton) made four saves earning his sixth shutout of the season. Valparaiso goalkeeper Jeff Oleck was peppered with 11 Spartan shots, and made nine saves.
Michigan State will be the No. 4 or No. 5 seed next week for the Big Ten Tournament which runs Nov. 10-13 in Evanston, Ill. MSU will face the No. 4 or No. 5 seed which will be either Michigan, Northwestern, or Wisconsin, depending on the outcome of the UW vs. NU game this afternoon in Evanston.
