Men's Soccer Falls to Bowling Green State
EAST LANSING, Mich.-Freshman Zac Olson scored two goals and senior Brett Strang added another tally as Bowling Green State defeated Michigan State, 3-1, in men's soccer action this afternoon in a game played at Old College Field on the MSU campus.
The Falcons claimed a 2-0 lead at halftime with Strang (24:01) and Olson (41:13) accounting for BGSU markers. After Michigan State narrowed the gap to 2-1 at the 78:00 mark on senior Ryan Townsend's (Plymouth) first goal of the year, Olson put BGSU ahead by a pair once again just 54 seconds later with his fifth goal of the season.
MSU finished with 11 shot attempts to BGSU's nine (8-3 Spartan advantage in the second half), and finished the match with 10 corner kicks compared to the Falcons' three. MSU redshirt freshman goalkeeper T.J. Lieckfelt (Sterling Heights) made two saves while his counterpart, junior Scott Vallow, came up with three stops.
The loss leaves MSU's overall record at 4-7-3 while the Falcons won their third in a row to boost their overall ledger to 10-5.
The next action for Michigan State will be next Sunday, Oct. 26, when it hosts Penn State at Old College Field starting at 1:00 p.m.
