EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State men's soccer team played three exhibition games last Saturday (April 1), tying Notre Dame, and downing Oakland and Northern Illinois. The Spartans are 2-0-1 this spring.

In its first match, solid goalkeeping from Jason Tillman (Sr., Brighton) kept Notre Dame scoreless. However, MSU could not convert on several chances and the game ended in a 0-0 tie.

In the second match, Karl Trost (So., Cheboygan) and Kenzo Webster (So., Monroe) each netted one goal, lifting Michigan State to a 2-0 victory over Oakland University. Junior goalkeeper Chris Austin (Livonia) had the shutout in net for the Spartans.

The third mach pitted MSU against Northern Illinois. Rauwshan McKenzie (Jr., Hoffman Estates, Ill.) put the Spartans up 1-0 when he redirected a Greg Janicki (Sr., New Baltimore) corner kick past the NIU goaltender. That goal would be all MSU needed to win the match, 1-0. Tillman and Austin shared the shutout for the Spartans.

This Saturday (April 8), Michigan State will host Michigan and Oakland University at Old College Field. The Spartans will square off with the Wolverines at 11:30 a.m. Then, Michigan will face Oakland at 12:45 p.m. The Spartans will face Oakland at 2:00 p.m. to cap off the day.
