No. 7 Michigan State Men’s Soccer Opens With Exhibition Friday
The Spartans will play the first of three exhibition at DeMartin Stadium.
EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State men’s soccer opens the 2018 season with an exhibition against Spring Arbor on Friday, Aug. 10 at 2 p.m. at DeMartin Stadium.

Friday is the first of a trio of exhibitions before the Spartans begin the regular season. MSU will host in-state rival Western Michigan on Monday, Aug. 13 at 1 p.m. Michigan State will conclude the preseason against Xavier on Friday, Aug. 17 in Fort Wayne, Indiana at the Shindigz National Soccer Festival at 6 p.m.
MSU began practice on Wednesday, Aug. 8 and will be looking to test themselves early. The Spartans look to prepare themselves for a tough schedule with three quality preseason opponents.
For the second-straight season, Michigan State will take on six teams that advanced to the NCAA Tournament during its 17-game regular-season schedule, including five teams that finished in the NCAA RPI Top 25. MSU will also face five teams that finished in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25. The Spartans’ challenging schedule also includes seven teams with 10 or more wins in 2017.
After reaching the Elite Eight last season, the Spartans earned a preseason ranking of No. 7. They are one of four Big Ten teams ranked in the top 25 along with No. 2 Indiana, No. 12 Wisconsin and No. 21 Michigan.
Michigan State ended the 2017 season with a 13-3-4 record advancing to the Elite Eight. The Spartans welcome back eight starters, including Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Year Jimmy Hague and leading scorer and all-Big Ten selection Ryan Sierakowski.
