Aug. 17, 2012
EAST LANSING, Mich. -- - The men's soccer team finally gets a chance for game conditions outside an intrasquad scrimmage as it prepares for a pair of pre-season exhibition games this weekend in the state of Indiana.
On Friday, MSU will take on IPFW at 7 p.m. LiveStats for this contest will be available at the IPFW website.
On Sunday, the Spartans will take on ACC power Duke at 1 p.m. on the campus of Trine University in Angola, Ind. Livestats will be available on www.MSUSpartans.com
Several players have expressed their excitement at getting another side to line up against as the preseason starts to come to a close. After nearly two weeks of preseason fitness testing, two-a-day sessions, and other pre-season "housekeeping" activities (compliance meetings, academic scheduling, and development sessions), the MSU players are ready to measure themselves against some competitive teams to make some final tweaks before the regular-season opener next Friday against Valpariaso at DeMartin Stadium.
"Im really pleased at our pre-season results and the way the players prepared for camp," said head coach Damon Rensing. "Our guys came into camp fit and ready to go. All of our healthy players passed the fitness tests, and they have all really been responsive and working hard in our training sessions.
"Exhibition games are a really good way to measure where you are, and we're really going to give our guys a tall task with the two games this weekend," continued Rensing. "These aren't going to be easy opponents for us, and we like it that way. We'll see our veterans as some of them evolve into new roles, and see how the freshmen react in a demanding environment. It' s been a competitive camp, and I'm really excited to see how we'll stack up."
