EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State men's soccer team will participate in the IPFW Soccer Showcase this weekend in Ft. Wayne, Ind., hosted by IPFW. The Spartans will play Rutgers on Friday night at 9 p.m. EDT and Kentucky at 2 p.m. EDT on Sunday.

Michigan State returns eight starters from the 2002 squad that posted a 12-7 overall record and advanced to the semifinals of the Big Ten Tournament. Jordan Gruber (Jr., Beverly Hills, Mich.) is the leading returning scorer after tallying seven goals and 19 points last season to rank second on the squad in both categories. Second-team All-Big Ten defenders Nick DeGraw (Sr., Clinton Township) and Kevin Wittig (Sr., Newtown, Pa.) will form the foundation of a tenacious defense along with senior goalie Mike Robinson (Troy), who was the starting goalkeeper on the 2001 Spartan squad that advanced to the NCAA Tournament. Senior captain Jeff Krass (Brighton) is a talented player in the midfield and one of the team's leaders.

The Spartans will open the regular season at home Sunday, Aug. 31 in the MSU/Radisson Fall Classic against Xavier at Old College Field at 12 p.m.
