Sept. 4, 2008
EAST LANSING, Mich. -
The Michigan State men's soccer team will take part in the University of New Mexico Tournament in Albuquerque, N.M. in its first road trip of the season this weekend. On Friday (Sept. 5), MSU will take on New Mexico at 9:30 p.m. EDT and will face off with UC-Davis at 3:30 p.m. EDT on Sunday (Sept. 7).
The Spartans are 1-1 on the season after defeating St. Francis (Pa.) 4-0 last Friday and falling to Vermont 2-1 on Sunday in the MSU/Radisson Fall Classic.
Picking up Where He Left Off: Senior Doug DeMartin recorded his fourth-career multi-goal game by scoring two goals in the season-opening win over St. Francis (Pa.). DeMartin led the Big Ten in goals last season with 12.
Schedule Change: The Spartans September 12 and 14 games of the Wolverine Classic will now be played in East Lansing at DeMartin Stadium instead of in Ann Arbor. Friday's match against Buffalo will be played at 1:30 p.m. and Sunday's game with UIC will be played at 2:30 p.m.
Tough Opponents: Three of the Spartans' first four games this season are against teams that were a part of last year's NCAA Tournament field. Vermont, New Mexico and UC-Davis, in addition to Michigan State, were all a part of last year's tournament. Five more opponents on this year's schedule - including, Illinois-Chicago, Northwestern, Ohio State, Notre Dame and Indiana - also played in last year's 48-team tournament.
