Steinlage Earns Big Ten Player of the Week Honors

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State men's soccer goalkeeper Avery Steinlage was named Big Ten Co-Defensive Player of the Week by the conference office on Monday (Sept. 14). Steinlage received the award after playing all 90 minutes in the Spartans' 2-0 win over Lipscomb on Friday, tallying four saves, including three in the second half. He then added one save in 76:21 minutes of action in Sunday's 4-0 triumph over Wright State to extend his shutout minutes streak by an additional 167:21. Steinlage's NCAA record consecutive shutout minutes streak now stands at 1,165:08.
The junior from Grand Haven remains perfect in net dating back to Oct. 15, 2008, tallying nine shutouts in the Spartans' last 12 games.
The weekly conference honor is the third of Steinlage's career and first for a Spartan since he last won the award on Nov. 3, 2008.
