EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State men's soccer senior forward Doug DeMartin was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week by the conference office on Monday (Sept. 29). The award is the second of DeMartin's career.
In two victories last week, the Mason native recorded nine points. In Wednesday's (Sept. 24) 6-0 win over Western Michigan, DeMartin scored a goal and chipped in one assist. On Sunday (Sept. 28), he scored three-consecutive goals and added an assist in MSU's 4-3 win at Penn State. The three-goal effort was the second of his career.
MSU head coach Joe Baum called DeMartin's performance against Penn State "...one of the finest games that any forward at MSU has had since I've been here."
DeMartin's nine goals and 20 points lead the Big Ten.
The Spartans (4-4, 1-1) return to action on Sunday when they host Wisconsin at 1 p.m.
