EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State men’s soccer forward Tim Kreutz was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday. Scoring his third game-winning goal of the season, Kreutz sent a goal into the net to give the Spartans a 3-2 double-overtime win at defending NCAA Champions Indiana on Friday, helping the Spartans improve to 9-3-3 on the season and 2-2-1 in the Big Ten.

“It’s very tough to win at Indiana no matter what their record is,” said head coach Damon Rensing. “For him to get the game-winning goal and an assist to start us off the first five minutes was great. He had a great assist, not just the cross, but the build up into it. I’m happy for him. He’s second in the conference in points I believe. It’s a reward maybe for just not that game or week, but a culmination of the season’s accolades.”

Kreutz helped Michigan State kick off its final road match of the season with a bang as he connected with Kyle Rutz to give the Spartans an early 1-0 lead. As the game was sent into the sixth double-overtime for MSU this season, the Spartans stepped up in the 107th minute when Ryan Thelen sent in a corner kick that Ryan Keener passed over to Kreutz who dribbled in the golden goal.

The eighth goal Kreutz has scored this season, 10th of his career, solidified a 3-2 victory for the Spartans and their third-straight win over the Hoosiers. He is No. 2 in the conference with his eight-goal total on the season, and is also ranked second with 0.53 goals per game. With his additional four assists, Kreutz has the second-most points in the conference with 20.

It marks the second career Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week honor for Kreutz. His first came on Sept 24, 2012 after he scored a goal and earned an assist in a 2-1 win over Western Michigan.

Kreutz and the Spartans will be back in action as they host No. 2 Notre Dame on Tuesday, Nov. 5 at 3 p.m. at DeMartin Stadium. The game will be broadcast live on the Big Ten Network.
