Joey Burkhardt is in his second season as an assistant coach for the Spartan men's tennis program. He joined the Spartans in December 2015.
Burkhardt was a two-year letterwinner at both the University of Florida (2009, 2010) and the University of North Carolina (2011, 2012). A co-captain as a senior, Burkhardt was a member of a Top-10 ranked doubles team and helped lead the Tar Heels to the most ACC wins in school history. While attending UNC, Burkhardt was chosen to serve in the Carolina Leadership Academy, a program designed to develop world-class leaders for a lifetime of service and success.
A two-time Dean's List selection at Florida, Burkhardt was named the team MVP as a freshman and played in the NCAA Championships doubles draw. He earned second-team All-SEC honors as a sophomore. He was 40-24 overall in singles and 36-28 overall in doubles during his time in Gainesville.
Following his collegiate career, Burkhardt was a member of the ATP World Tour in 2012 and 2013. He has served as the head tennis professional at the Julington Creek Plantation in St. Johns, Florida, since January 2014.
Burkhardt received his bachelor of arts in communications from North Carolina in 2012.
