Men's Tennis tops Penn State, 5-2

Spartans celebrate senior successes with sixth Big Ten win.

2012-13
Posted 16 singles victories, 12 of them during the spring dual season ... All 12 victories were recorded on court two ... Advanced to the singles quarterfinals of the fall Big Ten Indoor Championships with a 2-6, 7-5, 6-0 victory over Indiana's Yee and a 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 win over Northwestern's Baev ... He also tallied a total of 17 doubles victories on the year ... Paired with John Patrick Mullane in doubles action, earning twelve victories ... Competed in the first ever NCAA tournament match in school history falling to Tulsa's #56 Clifford Marsland in three sets 6-3, 4-6, 3-3, and No. 2 doubles falling 8-3 ... An Academic All-Big Ten Honoree ... Named the Stan Drobac Most Improved player ... Was second-team All-Big Ten.

2011-2012:
Posted 24 singles victories, 13 of them during the spring dual season ... Saw action on courts two through five ... Went undefeated at the Stan Drobac Invitational with three-straight wins ... Advanced to the singles semifinals of the fall Big Ten Indoor Championships with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Michigan's Zhu, a 6-4, 7-5 win over Wisconsin's Larsen, topped Ramirez from Minnesota, 7-6, 6-1 and Iowa's Vasos, 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 ... Paired with Aaron Pfister on court one in doubles action, earning ten victories.

2010-2011:
Tied for fourth on the team with 20 total victories in singles play, earning victories in the No. 3, 4 and 6 positions ... posted a 9-4 record in tournament play ... Defeated Hartman of then No. 47 DePaul 6-3, 6-4, and Mroziewicz of then No. 60 Iowa 6-4, 6-0 ... Earned an impressive 15 wins in doubles play, with victories over Hamui and Souza of the No. 17 Illinois 9-7 and Graves and Wolf of then No. 75 Northwestern 8-4.

Prior to MSU:
Four time letterwinner and three time captain at Brookfield East High School ... Selected as a second team all-state honoree in 2006 .... Named first team all-state from in 2007, 2008 and 2009 ... Finished third at states his junior and senior seasons.

Born Feb. 10, 1992 to Robert and Linda Lied ... Mother played tennis at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire ... Plans on majoring in veterinary medicine at MSU.
