MTennis: Spartans Sweep Doubleheader

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State men's tennis team looked to pick up their second win of the day on Saturday as they took on the Toledo Rockets after defeating Detroit Mercy earlier in the morning, 6-1. The Spartans were able to remain undefeated topping the Rockets with a convincing 6-1 score and improve to 6-4 in dual action for the season.
The Spartans started off the match strong in doubles play taking all three matches. MSU picked up win on courts two and three as Harry Jadun and Austin Brooks defeated Stillman and Weigand, 8-5 and Denis Bogatov and Gijs Linders picked up a win against Adams and Cona 8-6. The Spartans were tested on the top-ranked court but Aaron Pfister and Drew Lied were able to pick up the victory over Dudzik and Wong winning the tie-breaker 8-7 (7-2).
MSU continued their strong play into the singles matchups, easily picking up the first three matches. Ronnie Hulewicz gained the first single points with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Wong. He was followed by wins from Drew Lied on court five 6-2, 6-2 and Will Davis on court six 6-4, 6-2.
Michigan State dropped its first match of the dual on court two as Denis Bogatov fell to Grant Adams 6-4, 6-3. However, the Spartans were able to close out the competition with a pair of victories in two hard-fought matches. Aaron Pfister picked up his second singles win of the day on court one. Pfister topped Toledo's Stillman in a three-set tiebreaker, 4-6, 6-3, 6-6 (7-2). Austin Brooks finished the day up on court four with a come-from-behind victory over Dudzik in a ten-point tiebreaker at the end of the match, 3-6, 7-5, 10-6.
MSU opens Big Ten play next Sunday, Feb. 12 at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility when they host Ohio State at 12 p.m.
