Men's Tennis Takes Down No. 21 Wake Forest, 6-1

EAST LANSING, Mich. - In its most impressive outing of the young 2011 season, the Michigan State men's tennis team upset No. 21 Wake Forest by a score of 6-1 on Sunday, Feb. 6 at home. MSU earned two doubles victories and five out of six singles matches. With the victory, the Spartans move to a perfect 8-0 on the season.

After falling in the first set 0-6, sophomore Denis Bogatov mounted an impressive comeback in the No. 1 singles spot and defeated John Wolff by taking the next two sets, 6-4, 6-3. Junior Ron Hulewicz continued his season success by earning a 6-0, 6-1 win in the No. 2 spot against Ian Atkinson. The two closest victories of the afternoon came from seniors Austin Brooks and John Stratton. In the No. 3 spot, Brooks took down Kreyman, 6-7 (5), 7-6 (6), 10-8, and Stratton earned a 4-6, 7-5 (10-5) win over Hopkins. The Spartans earned their victory in the No. 5 slot as Aaron Pfister beat Prabhakar, 6-2, 6-3. The only MSU singles loss came at the hands of Sherwood, who defeated senior Jason Norville, 6-4, 6-2.

Norville earned one of two Spartan victories in doubles play with Stratton as they took down Leslie and Hopkins, 8-6. Brooks and Pfister tallied the second victory by defeating Atkinson and Sherwood, 8-5, after freshman Drew Lied and Bogatov fell to Wolff and Kreyman 8-3.

The Spartans continue action next weekend as they host Marquette on Friday, Feb. 11 at 6 p.m. and Notre Dame on Saturday, Feb. 12 also at 6 p.m. Both matches will be contested at the MSU Indoor Tenis Facility.
