Men's Tennis Tops Dayton

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Spartans closed out their doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 18 with a match against the Dayton. Earlier in the day MSU picked up a 6-1 victory over Western Michigan while dropping only one singles match. MSU continued its dominate play in the second match of the day coming away with another 6-1 win over the Flyers.
Michigan State swept doubles play in convincing fashion. Harry Jadun and Doug Zade were the first to win a match on court three with a quick 8-1 victory. Gijs Linders and Will David then defeated Salcedo and West, 8-3, on court two. On court one, Aaron Pfister and Ryan Richmond were able to complete the doubles sweep with a 8-5 victory over Benalcazar and Koross.
In singles action, Denis Bogatov picked up a quick point to start with a 6-0, 2-0 win after an injury caused Salcedo to forfeit midway through the second set. Aaron Pfister tallied the next win on court one 6-2, 6-0 over Koross, improving his No. 1 singles record to a perfect 4-0. On court five Doug Zade saw his first singles action and victory of the dual season with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Josh Malyon.
Will Davis continued the Spartans winning ways with a 6-2, 6-0 win on court four. Dayton then picked up a point on court six when Bernier defeated Ryan Richmond, 6-3, 6-4. Austin Brooks was able to close out the match with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Andrew Hanley to give the Spartans their second 6-1 victory of the day.
The Spartans travel to South Bend, Ind. to take on Notre Dame in their first true road match of the season. The match will take place on Sunday Feb. 26 at 10 a.m. at the Eck TennisPavillion.
