Men's Tennis Defeats Ball State, 5-2

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State men's tennis team defeated the Ball State Cardinals, 5-2, in its second road match of the season on Saturday, Feb. 21 in Muncie, Ind. improving to 9-1 in dual-season play.
With Ball State taking the doubles point, the Spartans came out strong in singles play picking up wins in all but one position. Senior Alex Forger (Okemos, Mich.) outplayed Eduardo Pavia at the No. 1 position, 7-6 (6), 6-2, putting him at 6-2 overall. Allare posted a win over Jose Perdoma, 6-4, 6-2, improving to 7-2 on the season and classmate Scott Rasmussen (Moraga, Calif.) fought through to defeat Adres Monroy at the No. 3 position, 7-5, 2-6, 6-1, posting an overall 8-2 season record. At the No. 4 position, freshman Austin Brooks (Houston, Texas) posted a win over Jorge Rodriguez, 6-4, 6-1, improving to 7-2 overall and classmate Ronnie Hulewicz (Tequesta, Fla.) defeated Shaun Bussert, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 5 improving to 8-1.
"Today marked a solid win on the road for us," said head coach Gene Orlando. "We won the hard way, losing the doubles point, but we were able to come back. They played hard and are continuously improving."
The Spartans host Illinois State and IUPUI Sat. Feb. 28 in the last doubleheader of the season. Play begins at 10 a.m. against Illinois and continues at 4 p.m. against IUPUI.
