Northwestern Edges Michigan State On The Road Saturday.

Evanston, Ill. - Michigan State men's tennis fell to Northwestern, 7-0, on Saturday, Feb. 25 in Evanston, Ill. The loss brings the Spartans record to 4-8 overall and 0-2 in the Big Ten while the Wildcats advance to 5-7 overall and 0-2 in the Big Ten.
In doubles action, Michigan State earned one victory but it was not enough to clinch the doubles point. Freshman John Allare and junior Joseph McWilliams defeated Marc Dwyer and Juan Gomez, 8-2 at No. 3. At No. 2, Christian Tempke and Willy Lock knocked off junior Michael Flowers and freshman Alex Forger, 8-6. Northwestern clinched the doubles point at No. 1 with an 8-4 victory from Adam Schaechterle and Matt Christian over sophomores Adam Monich and Nick Rinks.
In singles, Northwestern earned all the victories over the Spartans. At No. 5, Schaechterle defeated McWilliams, 6-2, 6-2. Alexey Evstratenkov knocked off freshman Scott Rasmussen at No. 6, 7-5, 6-1. The Wildcats clinched the overall victory at No. 4 with a 6-2, 6-4 victory from Dwyer over Forger. At No. 1 Tempke topped Rinks, 7-5, 6-2 and at No. 2, Lock defeated Monich, 7-5, 6-3. The final match went to Gomez in three sets, defeating Allare, 6-3, 6-7, 1-0 (4).
Michigan State will stay on the road next weekend when it heads to Brown for a Saturday match at 12:00 p.m. On Sunday they will head to Harvard with a match that will start at 12:00 p.m. as well.
