Men's Tennis Earns Hard Fought Win over Iowa, 4-3

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The No. 57 Michigan State men's tennis team (16-7, 2-6 Big Ten) edged No. 60 Iowa in a match that went down to the wire on Saturday, April 16 at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility. Senior John Stratton's victory at the No. 5 singles position captured the Spartan's second conference win of the season. Stratton edged Garret Dunn in a 7-6 (7) tie-breaker in the first set. He then fell to Dunn, 3-6, before rebounding, 7-6 (2), to secure the victory for the Green and White. Freshman Aaron Pfister earned a 6-4, 7-6 (2) victory over Nikita Zotov at the No. 4 spot. Freshman Andrew Lied downed Tom Mroziewicz, 6-4, 6-0, in his singles match at No. 6 singles. Sophomore Denis Bogatov fell at No. 1 singles to Marc Bruche, 6-2, 6-4. Junior Austin Brooks was defeated, 6-3, 6-2, by Will Vasos at No. 2 singles. Austen Kauss dropped junior Ronnie Hulewicz, 2-6, 6-4, 6-2, at the No. 3 spot. The Spartans captured the doubles point with two wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. Brooks and Pfister downed Dierchx and Zotov, 8-4. Senior Jason Norville and junior Mat Nelson topped Dunn and Mroziewicz, 8-4. Stratton and Lied suffered an 8-3 defeat to Bruche and Vasos at the No. 1 slot. The Spartans return to action tomorrow, April 17th, when they host No. 17 Illinois at noon for their final home contest of the season. Results SINGLES
