EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State men's tennis team continued action at the Stan Drobac Invitational, with both singles and doubles action. The Spartans took five of their eight matches in singles play against Xavier, and seven of its eight matches against the Vikings of Cleveland State.
Junior Denis Bogatov earned the first victory for the Spartans against Xavier, as he defeated Roebker 4-0, 4-2. Senior Austin Brooks and sophomore Drew Lied topped their opponents, as Brooks took down MacDonald 4-2, 4-2 and Lied defeated Bandy 4-5 (7-0), 5-3 (10-8). Juniors Will Davis and Christian Roehmer earned the final two victories against the Musketeers, as Davis topped Canelas 5-4 (3), 5-4 (5) and Roehmer defeated Abunku, 4-2, 4-1.
MSU continued its singles success against Cleveland State, earning seven victories in their eight matches. Bogatov earned his second victory of the afternoon by taking down Shabib 1-6, 7-6. Senior Ronnie Hulewicz redeemed his early loss against Xavier with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Goossens. Brooks and Lied also earned their second wins against the Vikings, as Lied took down Marks 6-4, 3-6, 10-5 and Brooks defeated Van Der Vloet 7-6 (2), 7-5. Freshmen Doug Zade and sophomore Ryan Richmond earned their first victories in singles play, as Richmond topped Foreman 6-1, 6-2, and Zade defeated Diaz 1-6, 6-4 (10-8).
In doubles play, Davis paired with Hulewicz to earn a 9-7 victory over Marks and Van Der Vloet of Cleveland State, while Lied and Roehmer paired to top Ford and Jones, 8-4.
The Spartans will conclude play today at 10 a.m. at the MSU Outdoor Tennis Courts.
