COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Michigan State men's tennis team continued action today at the Midwest Regional Championships in Columbus, Ohio with both main draw singles and doubles play. Sophomore Aaron Pfister, junior Denis Bogatov and senior Ron Hulewicz all advanced in singles play with victories, while all five of the Spartan duos advanced in doubles.
Pfister took down Blas Moros of Notre Dame 6-2, 7-5 to advance to the second round, while Hulewicz topped Raleigh Smith of Northwestern 6-4, 1-6, 6-2. Bogatov topped Dougie Barnard of Notre Dame with a convincing 6-2, 6-1 victory.
In doubles play, Bogatov and freshman Harry Jadun defeated Jones and Ford of Cleveland State with a convincing 8-0 victory, while Hulewicz and sophomore Will Davis narrowly defeated Streeter and Cheung of Detroit by a score of 9-7.
Junior Christian Roehmer and freshmen Doug Zade topped Chanturia and Dzanko of DePaul 8-6, while Pfister and senior Aaron Brooks defeated Campos and Schmerin of Youngstown State 8-5. Sophomore Drew Lied and freshmen Gijs Linders earned the final victory for the Spartans as they took down Tenzer and Goepper of Wisconsin-Green Bay 8-6.
The Spartans will continue action in both singles and doubles play tomorrow, Saturday Oct. 15.
