Men's Tennis Finishes Day Two at ITA Midwest Regional Championships

Pfister advanced to the second round in the singles main draw.

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Michigan State men's tennis team continued play Friday at the ITA Midwest Regional Championships hosted by Ohio State. Friday noted the final round of singles qualifying, as well as the first rounds of the singles main draw and the doubles main draw held at the Varsity Tennis Center and the Racquet Club of Columbus.

Junior Harry Jadun faced Notre Dame's Kenneth Sabacinski to play for a spot in the singles main draw. Jadun lost 6-1, 6-1 but still qualified for the main draw because of the way the seeding played out. In the first round of the singles main draw, Jadun defeated Stjepan Sisko of Toledo 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (5) and will play Western Michigan's Nadin Indre in Saturday's second round.

Senior Aaron Pfister won his first-round match against Western Michigan's Andrew Cahn 6-2, 7-6 and will play Alex Jesse of Illinois in the second round. Senior Drew Lied also won his first-round match by defeating Alex Lawson of Notre Dame in a close three-set match, 6-7, 7-5, 7-6. Lied will face Matt Kuelker of Cleveland State on Saturday.

In other action in the first round of singles main draw, sophomore John Patrick Mullane lost to Axel Lagerlof of Northern Illinois 6-4, 3-6, 6-4. Freshman Brett Forman fell to Notre Dame's Josh Hagar 7-5, 6-1. Junior Gijs Linders was defeated by Sabacinski of Notre Dame 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.

In doubles play, the team of Pfister and Linders took down Detroit's Jay Joshy and Chance Conley 8-4. Pfister and Linders will play Cleveland State's Ali Shabib and Joe VanMeter in the second round. Lied and Mullane won by default over DePaul's Sten Leusink and Adam Reinhart and will take on Rolando Torrellas and Jakub Eisner of Illinois State. The team of Will Davis and Doug Zade lost in their first-round match to Wisconsin-Green Bay's Michael Tenzer and Howard Scott 8-6. Forman and Jadun lost to Western Michigan's Ruben Greiner and Michael Treis 8-4.



Consolation matches will begin Saturday morning at 7:30 a.m. The second round of the singles main draw will commence at 8:45 a.m., with the third round beginning at 1 p.m. The second and third rounds of the doubles main draw will be held Saturday as well, with the second round starting at 4:30 p.m. and the third round beginning at 7:15 p.m.
