Men's Tennis Opens with Doubles Play at Big Ten Indoors

Flight B Doubles Results in PDF Format The Michigan State men's tennis team opened the Big Ten Indoors with doubles action at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facilities, Friday, Oct. 30. Two pairs picked up wins for the Green and White. All four who posted victories were in Flight A. After getting off to a slow start, the doubles tandem of seniors Jason Norville (Farmington Hills, Mich.) and Joe Vallee (Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich.) and the pairing of sophomore Austin Brooks (Houston, Texas) and junior John Stratton (Monroeville, N.J.) defeated their opponents. Both doubles teams fell in the first round and then again in the backdraw but quickly bounced back when Stratton and Brooks posted an 8-3 win over Sanborn and Reitz of Northwestern. Vallee and Norville fell in the same round Stratton and Brooks picked up their win, but regained some momentum to dominate Sanborn and Spector of Northwestern, 8-2, in the following round. In Flight B, the freshmen pairing of Will Davis (Lousiville, Ky.) and Denis Bogatov (Gurnee, Ill.) came out strong in both rounds, leading 4-1 to both opponents. Both matches resulted in a loss for the tandem. First Schanerman and Jackman of Northwestern came back to top MSU 8-4, and then Bijelica and Manassee outlasted the Spartan duo, 9-7.
Singles play will begin tomorrow, Oct. 31, at 9 a.m. at both the MSU Indoor Tennis Facilities and the MAC. Check back to msuspartans.com for updates at the conclusion of each day.
