Spartan Tennis Conludes Day One at Big Ten Indoors
Four Spartans Earn First Round Victories in Singles Play

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Spartan men's tennis squad opened the weekend on Friday at the Big Ten Indoor Championships in Madison, Wis., with both doubles and singles action. The junior duo of Drew Lied and Aaron Pfister advanced to the semifinal round after earning two victories in doubles play.
Following their first round bye, Pfister and Lied took down Barry and Griffin of Penn State by a score of 8-4. Their second victory came in dominating fashion, as the duo topped Baeu and Jackman of Northwestern, 8-1. Pfister and Lied will face Michael Zhu and Barrett Franks of Michigan tomorrow for a place in the finals match.
Action continued in the afternoon with singles play, where four Spartans earned victories to advance to the second round. Freshman John Patrick Mullane and sophomores Harry Jadun and Gijs Linders all earned victories over Iowa in the first round. Mullane defeated Joey White 6-4, 5-7, 6-3, while Linders took down Michael Swank 6-3, 6-2. Despite a close loss in the first set, Jadun came back to defeat Chase Tomlins 6-7 (5), 6-1, 6-2. Senior Denis Bogatov earned his first round victory over Chris Young of Penn State in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2.
