Spartans Move to 6-0 With Victories Over Bradley, Dayton

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Spartans began action with three doubles victories as junior Mat Nelson and senior Clark Richardson defeated Kalhorn and Abrams, 8-3, and junior Ron Hulewicz and sophomore Christian Roehmer took down Weerasinghe and Romanet, 8-2. Seniors Jason Norville and John Stratton won in the closest doubles match of the morning by defeating Nguyen and Cuadrado, 8-6. In singles play, sophomore Denis Bogatov and freshman Aaron Pfister both earned 6-1, 6-2 victories, taking down Cuadrado and Nguyen, respectively. Freshman Drew Lied gave the Spartans a 6-1, 6-1 win by defeating Kalhorn, and Richardson earned a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Abrams. Nelson defeated Romanet by a score of 6-3, 6-1 and senior Austin Brooks won in the closest singles match by taking down Weerasinghe, 6-2, 7-5. The Spartans success continued in the afternoon against the Flyers of Dayton, as they cruised to another 7-0 victory by earning victories in each of the three doubles matches and all six singles events. Bogatov and Lied earned a convincing 8-0 victory over Salcedo and Hanley in the first doubles match. The tandems of Pfister/Brooks and Nelson/Roehmer both earned 8-2 victories by taking down West and Benalcaza and Pecyna and Bandy, respectively. Pfister continued the impressive play in singles, taking a 6-0, 6-0
victory against Benalcazar. Richardson and Roehmer also posted solid
victories, taking down Crum and Bandy with 6-1, 6-2 scores. Hulewicz
defeated Salcedo 6-3, 6-1 in the No. 1 slot, and Stratton earned a 7-6
(8), 6-2 victory in the No. 2 spot against West. Norville notched the
final victory for the Spartans by beating Hanley, 7-5, 6-1.
The Spartans will continue action this Friday when the host the Toledo Rockets and 7 p.m. at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility. Doubles (vs. Bradley) Norville/Stratton (MSU) def.
