Men's Tennis Return Home for an Affair with Ball State

The Cardinals Are Coming: The Michigan State men's tennis team returns home for a Tuesday evening affair with the 2-11 Ball State Cardinals from the MAC conference. Last season, Ball State defeated the Spartans 4-3 in Muncie, Ind. The Cardinals have also taken two of the last three meetings with the Green and White.
An interesting side note to this match-up is that Michigan State head coach Gene Orlando is a 1987 graduate of Ball State University. While playing with the Cardinals, Orlando compiled records of 91-40 in singles and 98-24 in doubles. He was also inducted into the Ball State University Athletics Hall of Fame in September 1997.
Hoosiers On The Horizon: MSU will play its second match of the week on Saturday, March 28 at Indiana starting at 1:00 p.m. The Spartans defeated the Hoosiers 4-3 on Feb. 3, 1998 at the O'Charley's/Vol Classic.
Spartans Win Big Ten Opener: The Spartans opened the Big Ten dual match season with a 5-2 victory Saturday against Ohio State. MSU swept all three doubles matches against the Buckeyes to earn the doubles point. The victorious Michigan State teams were junior Chris Struck and sophomore Ken Kigongo at the No. 1 spot, at the No. 2 position was senior Ben Hetzler with junior Trey Eubanks, and the sophomore combination of Ivica Primorac and Francisco Trinidad at the No. 3.
In the singles matches, Struck was victorious at the No. 3 spot 6-7, 6-4, 6-0, Hetzler cleaned up the No. 4 position with a 7-6, 6-3 win, Kigongo took the No. 5 match by the score of 6-4, 6-7, 6-3, and Trinidad was triumphant at the No. 6 position 6-1, 6-2.
