EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State mens tennis team is sponsoring a pre-match event Saturday, April 4 at 12:00 p.m. before its Big Ten home opener against Minnesota which begins at 1:00 p.m.
The Spartan Climb, open to the public and free of charge, will be held, weather permitting, on the MSU Outdoor Courts on Chestnut and Wilson Roads, next to the Duffy Daugherty Football Building. In case of poor weather conditions, the community fund-raiser will be taking place at the Michigan State Indoor Tennis Facility on Mt. Hope Road.
Head coach Gene Orlando and all of the Michigan State varsity tennis players will be in attendance. The event will feature a campaign prospectus, refreshments, contests, pledge cards, special guest speakers, and drawings for prizes.
The Spartans will battle Minnesota in Michigan States first home Big Ten dual match on April 4 at 1:00 p.m., and MSU will collide with Iowa on Sunday, April 5, also at 1:00 p.m. The pair of Big Ten dual matches will be played, weather permitting, on the MSU outdoor tennis courts.
Michigan State will carry a three-match winning streak against the Hawkeyes into Sundays contest, including an MSU 5-2 victory last year in Iowa City.
In its match-up with Minnesota, the Spartans will look to revenge last seasons 5-2 loss to the Golden Gophers in Bloomington, Minn.
The top player for Michigan State this season is junior captain Trey Eubanks. He leads the Green and White with a 21-6 overall and a 12-3 No. 1 position record. The Spartan standout has also compiled a 9-4 doubles mark this season with senior Benjamin Hetzler.
