Drew Lied Named Big Ten Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week
Lied earns second weekly award of career.

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Senior Drew Lied has been named the Big Ten Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced on Tuesday. This is Lied's second weekly award of the season and his career as he also won the award on Jan. 14, 2014. He is the ninth player to receive this acclamation under head coach Gene Orlando.
The co-captain Lied helped MSU close out the regular season portion of its schedule with two ranked wins. Lied compiled a combined 4-0 singles and doubles record as MSU upset No. 28 Purdue, 5-2, on April 18, and No. 59 Indiana, 6-1, on April 20.
Against Purdue, Lied teamed with sophomore John Patrick Mullane on the No. 1 court to defeat No. 70 Szymon Tatarczyk and Ricky Medinilla, 8-6, in doubles. In singles, Lied beat Tatarczyk, 6-3, 7-5.
Facing Indiana, Lied paired with Mullane to take down Daniel Bednarczyk and Sam Monette, the 59th-ranked doubles team in the nation, 8-6. Lied claimed his third ranked win of the weekend as he defeated No. 104 Monette, 6-4, 7-6(5).
Lied was also named second-team All-Big Ten and an All-Big Ten Academic honoree in 2012-13.
MSU hosts the Big Ten Tournament April 24-27 and will play Nebraska on Thursday at 10 a.m.
