EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State head men's tennis coach Gene Orlando has announced that Gijs Linders (Amsterdam, Netherlands) has signed a National Letter of Intent and will join the Spartans in the fall.
"We are very excited to add Gijs Linders to our Spartan tennis program," said Orlando. "He's a winner both on and off the court and will be a great fit and an impact player here at Michigan State."
Prior to Michigan State: Attended Dalton Voorburg High School ... Earned a career-high International Tennis Federation combined junior ranking of 200 ... Has posted two wins on the 2011 Futures Tour ... Advanced to the semifinals of the ITF 4 Indoor Almere in 2010 with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Marlon Brand ... Finished second at the 2009 Danish Junior Cup, reaching the finals following a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 victory over Valentin Piret ... Placed third at the ITF Indoor McDonalds Flevoland Junior Championships after failing to reach the quarterfinals the previous three years ... Partnered with Alban Meuffels to reach the semifinals at the V ITF Junior Ribarroja Del Turia in 2010 in the doubles draw ... Reached the finals of the of the doubles draw at the Tournoi International de Clermont-Ferrand in 2009 with partner Colin Van Beem ... With Van Beem, won the ITF Mera Cup in 2009 with a 6-7 (11), 7-5 (10-7) win over Maksim Malyshev and Yevhen Zakharov ... Also won the ITF Junior Outdoor Cup in Copenhagen in 2009 with Van Beem, defeating Dennis Kos and Stefan Scheenstra in the finals, 6-3, 6-4 ... Finished in the top 10-percent of his high school class.
