EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State men's tennis head coach Gene Orlando has announced the program's 2013-14 schedule. MSU is coming off one of its most successful seasons in program history, as the Spartans appeared in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since the team tournament began in 1972. Highlights on the schedule include the 2014 Big Ten Outdoor Championships, which MSU will host for the first time since 2004, and 11 home matches, including five against Big Ten opponents.
The first team tournament begins Oct. 4 in South Bend, Ind., for the Notre Dame Invite.
Qualifying singles players, including senior Drew Lied, will compete at the 2013 ITA All-American Championships beginning Sept. 27 in Tulsa, Okla.
The ITA Midwest Regional Championships are set for Oct. 17.
The spring dual season begins Jan. 11 as MSU will host Detroit and Toledo. Eleven of MSU's 24 dual matches will be held in East Lansing. The non-conference away slate includes a number of visits to power conference schools. MSU will travel to South Bend, Ind., to take on the Fighting Irish Jan. 19. The Spartans will also head east on March 8 to play Harvard.
The non-conference schedule also includes many trips south as MSU will travel to Tennessee on Jan. 24, Kentucky on Feb. 9, Tulsa on Feb. 16, and Louisville on March 16.
The Spartans will compete in the National Indoors tournament Feb. 14-17, with the site to be announced.
Big Ten Conference play beings Feb. 28 as MSU will travel to rival Michigan. Big Ten home matches include Ohio State, Nebraska, Iowa, Purdue, and Indiana. The Big Ten Championships will be held April 24-27 in East Lansing, Mich.
