EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State men's tennis team will compete in its third tournament this fall as it plays host for the first time this season for the ITA Midwest Regional Championships from Thursday Oct. 18 until Monday, Oct. 22.

Both conference and non-conference opponents will be competing in the tournament for a total of 20 teams from the region. Action is set to begin at 8 a.m. on Thursday beginning with singles qualifying rounds.

The Spartans competed in both the Tom Fallon Invitational at the University of Notre Dame and in the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla., earlier this season, where they notched six total victories in singles play and two in doubles. Freshman John Patrick Mullane earned All-Tournament honors at the Tom Fallon Invite with three singles wins and one in doubles play.

Mullane defeated Quentin Monaghan of Notre Dame 6-4, 6-3, and topped Danill Proskura of Alabama 6-3, 5-7, 1-0. Sophomore Harry Jadun paired with Mullane to earn a doubles victory over Harris Barnard and Stuart Kenyon of Alabama 8-5. Other victories in the Fallon invite came from sophomore Doug Zade who earned a 6-4, 6-2 singles victory over David Vieyra of Alabama, and doubles pair senior Denis Bogatov and Jadun, who took down Dor Amir and Jovan Zeljkovic of Northern Illinois, 8-2.

Earning victories for the Spartans at the ITA All-American Championships were junior Drew Lied and senior Will Davis. Both grabbed victories in singles action as Lied earned a comeback victory over Marc Westgate of New Mexico State 5-7, 6-2, 6-4, and Davis topped Grant Taylor of Air Force with a score of 6-3, 6-4.

The Spartans will round out their fall tournament schedule when they head to Madison, Wis., for the Big Ten Indoor Championships on Nov. 1. The dual tournament schedule will begin on Jan. 12, when MSU hosts a doubleheader against Wright State and Detroit.
