Men's Tennis Heads to Big Ten Indoors

Davis and the Spartans will compete in their last team tournament of the fall.

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State men's tennis team is off to West Lafayette, Ind., to compete in the Big Ten Indoors Oct. 25-28 hosted by Purdue University. Play will begin at 8 a.m. Friday at the Schwartz Tennis Center and Lafayette Sports Center. Friday's play will consist of one round of singles and two rounds of doubles.

Eleven of the 12 Big Ten conference programs will be in attendance. This will be the last time that number of the conference will be together until the Big Ten Championships on April 24-27, 2014, which will be held in East Lansing, Mich., for the first time since 2004.

This will be the last team tournament of the fall before the spring dual season starts Jan. 11, 2014.

"We are excited to have the opportunity to compete back-to-back weekends," head coach Gene Orlando said. "This week will be a great opportunity for us to see our Big Ten competitors and to see how everyone is stacking up. This weekend we are looking to make the adjustments in our game from last week and be ready to perform at our highest level thus far this fall."

MSU will have eight players competing in the singles draw and four doubles teams in the doubles draw.

Freshman Mac Roy will open up at 8 a.m. Friday facing Northwestern's Alp Horoz. Junior Gijs Linders will also play at 8 a.m. against Alekzander Davila of Indiana, as will sophomore Paul Heeder who will match up with Penn State's Marc Collado Castells at 8 a.m.

Senior Will Davis will play Frederik Strabo of Wisconsin at 9:15 a.m.

Freshman Brett Forman will take on Wisconsin's Alexander Kokorev at 9:45 a.m.

Juniors Doug Zade and Harry Jadun will both play at 11:30 a.m. Zade will play Indiana's Michael Sellitto and Jadun will face Tucker Saxon of Minnesota. Sophomore John Patrick Mullane will play Scott Elsass of Nebraska at 2 p.m.

In doubles, Jadun and Linders will team up to face Purdue's Diego Acosta and Aaron Dujovne at 4:45 p.m. Also at 4:45 p.m., Davis and Heeder will play Minnesota's Jeremy Lynn and Tucker Saxon. At 5:45 p.m., Forman and Mullane will take on Michael Swank and Joey White of Iowa. Roy and Zade will play Wisconsin's Alexander Kokorev and Petr Satral at 5:45 p.m.
