Dec. 17, 2008
EAST LANSING, Mich. -
Michigan State men's tennis head coach Gene Orlando has announced that Will Davis (Louisville, Ky./Kentucky Country Day) and Christian Roehmer (Mt. Pleasant, Mich./Mt. Pleasant) have signed National Letters of Intent and will join the Spartans in the fall of 2009.
Davis is a dual sport athlete at Kentucky Country Day, where he is on the varsity swimming team as well as the varsity tennis team. Davis is coached by Rob Spencer, Larry Klein, Peter Vaananen and Tom McGraw and has compiled a record of 16-4 at the No. 1 singles position. Holding the No. 1 spot since his freshman year, Davis has been the top-rated Kentucky Boys 18 and Under player in the USTA Southern and National Rankings. He has also won the Kentucky State Qualifier twice.
"Will Davis is the third player we have recruited from Louisville, Ky.," said Orlando, "So we seem to be having some luck there. We are extremely excited he is joining us."
Roehmer has compiled an overall record of 69-8 playing at Mt. Pleasant for Coach Greg Wendrow. Also coached by Patrick Jenkins, Roehmer is a Division I three-time all-state qualifier, a three-time regional selection and the Saginaw Valley Conference champion. He was the team captain his junior and senior year, and is the top ranked player in Michigan for the class of 2009.
"We've been following Christian for a couple years and are very excited he is now a Spartan," Orlando said. "Both Roehmer and Davis add to the depth of our team and have the potential to improve throughout they're career and that's what we are anxiously anticipating."
