MSU Names Walt Drenth Director of Men's and Women's Track and Field and Cross Country
In a move to reorganize the track and field and cross country programs, Walt Drenth has been named the director of men's and women's track and field and cross country, according to an announcement made by Athletics Director Ron Mason on Friday, June 2. Drenth was appointed head coach of the men's track and field team on May 11 and is entering his third year as the men's cross country head coach. Drenth will now handle the additional duties of directing the women's track and field and cross country programs.

Egger, Bartlebaugh Named To Academic All-District IV Team
For the third consecutive year, Nathan Egger has been named to the Academic All-District IV men's track and field/cross country first team. Egger, who is now eligible for Academic All-America honors, compiled a 3.97 grade-point average in physiology. The Mason, Mich., native received the President's Award - awarded to the top graduating male athlete at MSU - earlier this spring at the annual academic gala. In addition to Egger, junior Matt Bartlebaugh (Napoleon, Mich.) garnered second-team honors for his 3.94 GPA in history.

Jeremy Orr Takes Fifth in 400 Meters, Advances To NCAA Championships
Sophomore Jeremy Orr (Detroit) placed fifth in the 400 meters at the NCAA Men's Mideast Track and Field Regional Championships on Saturday with a personal-best time of 46.24 to advance to the NCAA Championships. Orr will join teammate Brad Gebauer at the NCAA Championships June 7-10 in Sacramento, Calif. Gebauer won the pole vault title on Friday. Overall, the Spartans earned 15.75 points and placed 17th.

Brad Gebauer Wins Pole Vault At NCAA Men's Mideast Regional Track and Field Championships
Brad Gebauer (Bad Axe, Mich.) claimed first place in the pole vault with a leap of 5.31 meters (17-5) Friday afternoon at the NCAA Men's Mideast Regional Track and Field Championships. Gebauer, the 2006 Big Ten indoor and outdoor pole vault champion, now advances to the NCAA Championships June 7-10 in Sacramento, Calif. On the track, sophomore Jeremy Orr (Detroit) advanced to the finals of the 400 meters by running a 46.50 in the prelims.As a team, Michigan State is eighth with 10.75 points.

Men's Track and Field Sending 10 Athletes To NCAA Mideast Regional Championships
The Michigan State men's track and field team will send 10 athletes to compete in the NCAA Mideast Regional Championships on Friday and Saturday (May 26-27) at the Tom Black Track in Knoxville, Tenn. The top-five finishers in the individual events automatically advance to the NCAA Championship meet June 7-10 on the campus of Sacramento State University.
