SOUTH BEND, Ind.-The Michigan State men's track and field team completed competition with a selected few at the Meyo Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 7 at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind. The competition was held at Loftus Sports Center with senior Steve Manz provisionally qualifying in the shot put with a season-high toss of 61-05.

Manz continues to lead the Spartans with victories in the shot put in all five indoor meets this year, while freshman Jason Brown finished not far behind at third this week with a toss of 52-5 1/2. This is the first time this season the Manz and Brown have not finished first and second, respectively, in this event.

In another field event, freshman Julien Williams placed fourth overall in the long jump with a leap of 24-2 1/2.

On the track, sophomore Carlos Alexander finished second in section six of the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.11 and second in heat three of the 60-meter dash prelims (7.07), while Spartan John Childress finished third in heat one of the 60-meter hurdles (8.37). Also, junior Steve Sherer placed 14th in the mile run (4:07.51).

The Spartans will continue on the road to the Iowa State Classic on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 13-14 at Iowa State. Meet time is TBA.
