Men's Track And Field Completes Day Two At Mt. SAC Relays And Long Beach Invite

WALNUT, Calif.- Selected member of the Michigan State men's track and field team competed in day two of the Mt. SAC Relays Saturday (April 17) in Walnut, Calif., while also competing at the Long Beach Invite in Long Beach Calif. After State's stellar performance in day one of competition at the Mt. SAC Relays, State's men's team competed in only one event at Mt. SAC, while competing well in many events at LBSU.
At the Mt. SAC Relays, two Spartans competed in the men's 1500-meter run: senior Steve Sherer and freshman Jim Pancoast. Sherer finished in 56th place out of 129 competitors in the 1500-meter run with a time of 3:50.59, while Pancoast placed 23rd in heat one of the same event with a time of 3:59.34.
At the Long Beach Invite, the top performer for the Spartans was senior Steve Manz, who finished second in the shot put with a toss of 61-2, breaking his own MSU outdoor record of 60-11 1/2 which he established last year.
Also competing well for State were sophomore Brad Gebauer, who finished third in the pole vault with leap of 16-0 3/4, senior Charles Smith, who placed third in the javelin throw (173-2), and junior Chris Hohn, who finished fifth in the same event with a toss of 168-11. Sophomore Carlos Alexander finished the 100-meter dash in ninth place with a time of 10.76, while junior John Karanja placed 12th in the 400-meter hurdles (54.31)
