EAST LANSING, Mich. - On the final day of competition at one of the nation's most prestigious track meets, the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa, Michigan State men's track team members Andy Lixey (Sr., East Tawas) and Steve Manz (Jr., West Branch) each recorded top-10 finishes Saturday (April 26). Lixey, running in the 800-meter finals, turned in a time of 1:51.26, which was good for fourth place, less than one second behind the race winner, Jason Briggs of Indiana State who ran the race in 1:50.31. In the special shot put finals, Manz finished eighth with a throw of 58-06 ½, competing amongst the nations best.

Selected members of the MSU track team also competed at the Gina Relays in Hillsdale on Saturday as well. Among the Spartans competing were: Ricco Roby (So., Muskegon Hts.) who took 20th in the 200 meters with a time of 22.81, Chris Hohn (So., Pinckney), who took 14th in the javelin with a mark of 145-07 and Derek Strittmatter who took 18th in the discus with a throw of 141-0 ¾.
