Spartans Sprint Into South Bend
April 1, 2004
EAST LANSING, Mich.- The Michigan State men's track team will head to South Bend, Ind., on Saturday, April 3 to compete in the Notre Dame Spring Opener. The meet will take place at Monogram Track and Field with a 10 a.m. start. The men's team will look to improve on last week's performance at the Stanford Invitational where only one member of the team qualified for the NCAA Regionals.
Last week, senior Steve Manz was once again a stellar performer for the Spartans. His toss in the shot put at the Stanford Invitational of 56-5 1/4 was good for a 12th place finish and a qualifying mark for the NCAA Regionals.
Also competing well for the Spartans were sophomore Brad Gebauer, who finished tied for fourth in the pole vault (15-9), and sophomore Brian Sherwood, who finished tied for 12th place in the high jump (6-8 3/4).
On the track, Carlos Alexander got off to a good start for the outdoor season, finishing fourth in his 30-member section of the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.79.
After a great performance last week, finishing the season opener with one NCAA automatic qualifier and four NCAA regional qualifiers, the women's team has the weekend off. The Spartans will resume competition on Saturday, April 10 hosting the Michigan State Open in East Lansing, Mich.
