Spartan Wrestlers to be Honored at Team Banquet

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State University wrestling team will hold it's end-of-the-season banquet Sunday, April 20 at 1:00 p.m. at the Holiday Inn South on Cedar Street. Cost is $25 per person and includes sit-down dinner along with team awards, senior speeches, and a highlight video after dinner. Reservations can be made calling 517-353-7189 before April 12th.

The Spartan grapplers ended the 1996-97 campaign with a 9-12 dual meet record, 3-8 in the Big Ten. Junior David Morgan won the Big Ten Championship at 118 pounds, while senior Brian Picklo finished second at 190 pounds, and senior Eric Harvey was third at 177 pounds. All three competed at the NCAA Championships, with Morgan and Picklo earning All-American honors by finishing fifth. Morgan ended his season with a 41-6 record, 21-1 against the Big Ten, while Picklo finished 41-9, 16-3, and Harvey 37-8, 13-3. Harvey also became the winningest wrestler in Michigan State history this season, moving past former Spartan greats Dan Wirnsberger and Mike Potts. His career record now stands at 147-38, including 35 pins.
