No.1 Hawkeyes Too Much for Spartans; Morgan, Harvey, Picklo Get Wins
MSU was led by David Morgan, Erich Harvey, and Brian Picklo who each had wins against All-Americans but they weren't enough as the team fell to Iowa 26-10. Iowa's experience proved to be the key as MSU had 4 underclassmen in their first five weight classes.
"They're loaded. They're the standard in college wrestling," said MSU coach Tom Minkel about the top-ranked Hawkeyes. "And we're rebuilding in some ways with a pretty young team. But I was happy with our effort. We didn't back down."
MSU now faces #4 Penn State who brings 6 nationally ranked wrestlers into Jenison Field House on Saturday. PSU's toughest wrestler is 17-0 heavyweight Kerry McCoy.
"Penn State has had some of the top recruiting classes the last few years," said Minkel. "And now those kids are starting to mature."
